Blog update
So, we’re a bit behind on the blog (in case you hadn’t already noticed) …
To bring you up to speed, in real time, we’ve already passed the Oregon/Washington border. We are currently at White Pass (near mile 2,300) and now have less than 350 miles to go until we reach Canada (fingers crossed).
With the going being slower than normal this year through the snow in the Sierras, we’ve had to make up time by doing bigger mile days through Northern California and Oregon. This has meant that our days have typically involved getting up before sunrise and hiking until sunset in order to hit our mileage targets. All of which, we have discovered, doesn’t leave a lot of spare time for writing a blog unfortunately!
The conventional wisdom is that you should aim to finish the PCT by 1 October if you definitely want to avoid being snowed out at the US-Canada border (which we’d ideally like to avoid as it would mean we wouldn’t be able to finish the trail). We’re already starting to notice some changes in the weather over the last couple of weeks on trail, so it is looking like it will be a race against time to reach Canada before the end of the hiking season.
We’ve heard from other hikers and locals that it may be possible to finish later into October if the weather doesn’t get too nasty though, which is comforting. Our plan is to continue to push to reach the Northern Terminus no later than 10 October, while keeping one eye on the upcoming weather.
This schedule, combined with the expected lack of cell service and wifi as we head further into northern Washington means that there will probably be a delay in us being able to finish our blog posts, but we will get them online once we have a chance to sit down and do some posting.
In the interim, we will keep posting daily photos on Instagram, so please feel free to follow us over there if you would like to see how we are progressing over the next few weeks.

Hi Linda, thank you so much again for your generous offer! We are currently in Mazama, Washington, and it’s looking like we will have three good weather days in a row starting tomorrow, which should be enough time for us to reach the Northern Terminus! We were actually planning on spending a day or so in Seattle on our way back to San Francisco before flying home to Sydney, if you are still able to offer a place to stay. Completely understand if the timing doesn’t work for you though. At this stage we are aiming to get back to Seattle from Canada on Sun 13th October. Thank you, Adam

Adam I think that works, I just have to clear it with my husband. The dog won’t mind! You’ll be stashed in the attic bedroom of our tiny house house, but we have plenty of heat and hot water. I’ll let you know for sure as soon as I hear from him.

Great, thank you so much Linda! We’re still in the process of organising our transport down to Seattle so I will let you know once we have confirmed our arrival time into Seattle. Hopefully our gear won’t be too wet or muddy based on the weather forecast for the next few days as there shouldn’t be any rain around. We should have plenty of time to do a load of laundry at Manning Park too before we leave Canada, which will minimize any messy gear that we will have with us

Thanks Linda! We reached the Northern Terminus yesterday afternoon before hiking into Manning Park in Canada this morning. We’ll arrive into Seattle tomorrow morning but were thinking we’d spend most of the day doing some sightseeing around the city before connecting with you later in the day. Would you prefer that we lock in a time and place to meet in advance, or would you be ok for us to instead keep in touch once we have arrived into Seattle? Either is fine with us. Thanks again, Adam

Enjoy Seattle tomorrow. You’ll have lots more fun without dragging your gear around. My day is wide open and we’re so close to downtown. I’d be happy to meet up and grab your packs so you can explore without them. Then when you’re done sight seeing I can fetch you from wherever you happen to be. Carlos and I would love to treat you to dinner or whatever meal works. Just let me know.
